Well, the time has come. All the campaign stops, speeches, and debates conclude tomorrow when voters go to the polls and cast their ballots in the NYC mayoral race.
Right now, there are 3 candidates still in the race that are vying to be the mayor of the financial capital of the world. These 3 candidates are Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani, Independent Andrew Cuomo, and Republican Curtis Sliwa. Let's start with Zohran Mamdani. Mamdani is a self-identified "democratic-socialist", and he is representing where the Democratic Party is heading today. His platform is focused on bringing down costs for New Yorkers, but his methods can be questionable. He is offering things like free buses, free housing, and free groceries to New Yorkers, and he plans to get these funds through raising taxes on the wealthy citizens of New York. Recent polling shows Mamdani getting 43-46% of likely voters, which makes him the favorite for the race. While many Democrats have strayed away from Mamdani due to his socialist message, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries finally gave his endorsement to Mamdani, which is a huge endorsement considering Jeffries is one of the leaders of the Democratic Party. While Mamdani's lead in the polls has shrunk, he is still considered the favorite for the race.
The next candidate is former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. When the race started, Cuomo was the favorite to get the Democratic nomination. However, he lost to Mamdani, which led to the decision to run as an independent. Cuomo has positioned himself as the anti-Mamdani candidate. While he is still a Democrat, his platform and policy are normal Democratic policy that strays away from the highly socialist policies of Mamdani. Cuomo has made up ground in the polls, but he still has a long way to go with less than 36 hours until the polls close.
The final candidate is Republican Curtis Sliwa. Sliwa is running on traditional Republican values, but he has no shot of winning this race. Many people say he is running to spite Andrew Cuomo, but Sliwa insists he is running to actually win the race. If Sliwa were to drop out, Cuomo would have a better chance of beating Mamdani, but polls show that Mamdani would still win the race.
Our Prediction: Mamdani wins. All the polls show Mamdani is ahead of the other candidates in the race right now. While polls can be wrong sometimes, it seems the energy of the Democratic Party has unified around Mamdani, and it is only a matter of time before he is elected mayor of New York City.
